In 1974 Bob Meier took his first pottery class at Appalachian State University to fill in his schedule. This was the first time seeing the process of clay being turned into a finished piece of pottery. He exclaims it was like “an epiphany”. This class led him to a career in pottery, and since that day, Bob has worked to hone his craft. A guiding question in Bob’s work is “Does form follow function?” The answer to this question can be seen in his work, which, along with the work of numerous other High-Country potters, can be found at his Gallery in Downtown Boone. Doe Ridge Pottery Gallery specializes in pottery as home décor and functional ware.

Located on King Street in the heart of downtown Boone since 1988, Doe Ridge Pottery Gallery is unique with the quality and breadth of its offerings. Visitors can find anything from functional stoneware pottery to handmade birdhouses to vegetable steamers to one of a kind object-oriented Designer pieces. Bob says, “All of the work from the potters in our gallery reflects my interest in intriguing designs and exacting craftsmanship.” Doe Ridge Pottery Gallery serves as a store, a gallery, and a studio and welcomes guests seven days of the week.
