Generous funding for this program is provided by the Cherokee Preservation Foundation.

About the artists:

  • Tara McCoy has been an artist her whole life. Tara shares that “Life is art. I am a multi artist, I do beadwork, fingercarving, shell carving and pottery. Pottery has been my main focus for the past 22 years and I still seek ways to make my art better than my earlier works. You never stop learning and that’s how I push my art to the next level. Although my art is done on the side, I hope to retire and do art full time one day. “
  • Mary Thompson shares that “Basketry, as my more traditional art form directly relates to my surroundings. The forest and mountains contain all the resources. The knowledge needs to be shared.”
