The Art Cellar in Banner Elk has moved far beyond the actual cellar in which it began. In 1993, Pam McKay started her business with a goal of promoting art created by artists from the Appalachian region. Today, the Art Cellar boasts 4,000 square feet of exhibition space over three levels, as well as a framing workshop. Pam and her husband, Michael McKay, have cultivated their business and venue to showcase, preserve, and celebrate art from regional and national artists.
The Art Cellar provides corporate and private consulting and placement, and their in-house frame shop offers museum quality conservation framing services, consultation, and other specialty framing services. From primitive to realistic, impressionistic to abstract, the gallery features fine quality art and craft by established and emerging artists that is unlike anywhere else in the Southeast.
Located a short drive from downtown Banner Elk, the Art Cellar’s space is open and inviting. A full event calendar offers visitors exhibitions, artist openings, and book signings. The Art Cellar houses paintings, sculpture, and works in glass, clay, and stone. The McKays seek to offer a comfortable and welcoming environment for guests to explore, experience, and discover art to be treasured for generations.
