Apple Country Woodcrafters
Add to Trip

Apple Country Woodcrafters, a membership-based non-profit in Hendersonville, North Carolina, might as well be considered Santa’s shop for most of the year. The club was created to promote the craft of woodworking, and the group’s largest effort is building wooden toys for local, economically disadvantaged children to brighten their holiday season. For the past few years, the number of toys has exceeded 2,000. This project is enhanced by the camaraderie enjoyed among the members, whose common interest is a love for woodworking.

In addition to thousands of toys being handcrafted in the shop, you will see the group’s members handcrafting pieces as woodworkers, wood turners, furniture makers, and carvers. Many members use the shop for their own projects while some members choose to make toys in their home shops using club supplied materials. Group work sessions to produce toys are hosted periodically, and all are welcome to participate in these sessions. Toys are the focus on Wednesdays but members’ personal projects are also welcome. The shop also hosts Open Carving sessions on Thursdays from 9am to 12 pm for wood carvers.

For safety and liability purposes, persons touring the Apple Country Woodcrafters’ shop must be 18 years of age, or closely supervised by an adult during the walk-through.

Shop hours vary. Visit website for the most up-to-date hours: www.applecountrywoodcrafters.org
