Andrae and Tim DeHaan are quick to emphasize that Yadkin Valley Quilts is a quilting studio. Their storefront in downtown Elkin is far more than just a store. The two of them came to quilting at different times, from different angles. Andrae came from a quilting family in Texas; her first quilt was a puff quilt stuffed with nylon hose. Tim drew near to quilting when he married Andrea, and he took it up in earnest as a pastime during recovery from illness. Now the two work to create a modern-day version of the quilting bees of yore. They see quilting as fiber therapy and work to maintain a space where quilters can come and escape from their daily cares and concerns.
Yadkin Valley Quilts offers quilting classes for the rank beginner as well as the seasoned quilter. Class offerings cover all aspects, styles, and techniques of quilting. Yadkin Valley Quilts can also make commissioned quilts. They can quilt a top that has already been pieced, or they can take an idea and make it a reality. Visitors can find quilts for sale and a wide range of supplies for many different styles of fiber craft.
