In 2014 West Union Art Studios began as a small studio space for 6 ceramic-based artists. Started by Adam and Molly Mackay, the idea was to help lighten the burden for other artists starting out in the art business. The initial idea was to create a group studio and gallery where artists could work and learn together. Since then, the offerings have expanded, but the mission has stayed the same. Currently there are 13 working studios throughout the building. West Union Studios offers music lessons on piano, guitar, ukulele, and violin, as well as luthier services. West Union Art Studios also has a community networking opportunity for participants at the Enola Group, a day program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, several of whom contribute fantastic folk art to the gallery.

Most of the work you’ll find is ceramic based. Owners, Adam and Molly Mackay make functional ceramic tableware and decorative sculpture. Studio members based in clay make a variety of work, but you can be sure to find functional pottery like plates, bowls, mugs, vases and cups in each artist’s own style. Visitors will find beautiful agate ware clay pieces in a multitude of colors, folk style pottery including face jugs, sculptural work like carved birds and seasonal pieces both thrown and hand-built. Also displayed are numerous folk art-style paintings and small crafts made by Enola Group’s participants. Also available are acrylic paintings in a variety of styles and musical instruments, some of which are made by the in-house luthier.
