Kristen and J.R. Page met while in Haywood Community College’s Professional Craft Program, and they’ve been making pottery together since. Today, they run Page Pottery from their farm just outside of Burnsville. Their shared goal as potters is to create something greater together than anything either could do individually. They collaborate on every piece, even if just getting the other’s input on design, form, or function. Every piece of pottery they create has been handmade from scratch, starting out as a lump of clay then hand-thrown on the potters wheel or hand-built into existence.
Visitors to Page Pottery can see a showroom of work featuring multiple production lines. The showroom is adjacent to a studio with his & her potters wheels and the entire production setup. Kristen and J.R. make both functional and decorative pieces, incorporating a number of materials and techniques. Their glazes are hand-mixed from a variety of feldsparic rock, silica, and other raw materials.
Page Pottery functional dinnerware is handmade from durable stoneware clay that is high fired in an oxidation environment. Their Raku pottery is not intended for functional use but for stunning decorative display. Combining modern techniques with this ancient Japanese firing technique makes their Raku pottery dynamic and exciting.
