Take an Art Walk in state’s westernmost town

The county seat of Cherokee County, Murphy is nestled within a stone’s throw of northern Georgia and eastern Tennessee. The area beckons visitors with camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, local restaurants and breweries, a satellite of Harrah’s Cherokee Casino, and a vibrant local arts scene.

The Murphy Art Center (MAC) is owned and operated by the Valley River Arts Guild members. The Art Center features the artworks of 70 artists and crafters and hosts events and art classes of all types throughout the year for kids, teens, and adults. The MAC is located on the Square in the center of downtown Murphy, in a larger, renovated bank building.

The Valley River Arts Guild produces the Murphy First Friday Art Walks every month, May through December. Guild members install the beautiful, large canvas art panels in an outdoor art gallery called the MAX Project, Murphy Art Xplosion, that you will see throughout downtown on the outside of many historic buildings. The guild’s art class offering are extensive, and guild members work to plan an annual Spring Studio Tour called SMArt Tour, Smoky Mountain Art Tour, taking the visitors along the countryside to visit open working arts and crafts studios located in Cherokee County.

Details for each of their programs and events can be found on their website.
