What started as a hobby for Christopher Markey has grown into a livelihood, and today Markey & SonWoodcraft and Carving is a full-time operation. Chris left a career in advanced manufacturing to become a part of the Western North Carolina craft industry with his heirloom quality chainsaw carvings and wood art. As a second-generation craft business entrepreneur, for Chris, being a craftsperson is more of a lifestyle than a vocation.
Markey & Son’s specialty is chainsaw art and carving, and visitors should expect to see small-to-medium carvings of bears, owls, and other woodland creatures. Creations can often be produced in souvenir-friendly dimensions that can easily be picked up and carried away. Another aspect of Markey & Son’s business involves custom-commissioned pieces, which can often be made within days of ordering.
Visitors to Markey & Sons Woodcraft & Carving can enjoy an open-air studio nestled neatly between a quaint crape myrtle tree and a mighty water oak, it is exactly the kind of work site many visitors expect to see rustic, nature inspired crafts being made in.
