At Mangum-Cater on Main in Sparta, three potters have come together to create a unique opportunity for visitors to get the full pottery experience. In 2013, Robin Mangum joined forces with Daniel and Robin Cater, combining Mangum Pottery and Cater Pots to form Mangum-Cater on Main. A gallery space greets visitors with displays of functional pottery intermixed with displays of sculpture and decorative clay works. Visitors can make their way through the gallery to walk upstairs and discover a professional studio complete with wheels, slab roller, glazing area, and kilns.
Mangum-Cater on Main offers a wide variety of functional pottery from mugs, bowls, platters, vases, and dinnerware. There is a strong voice of sculpture in the gallery as well. Daniel Cater focuses on hand-built forms with a contemporary influence. Robin Mangum creates one-of-a-kind whimsical forms using underglazes and slips. Robin Cater, when taking a break from the functional body of work, will diverge and create one-of-a-kind tile wall pieces, totems, and lamps. Guests are also encouraged to relax on the mural covered back porch to enjoy the mountain views and community.
