Kaaren Stoner Design Studio
Add to Trip

Kaaren Stoner has been a working potter since 1969. She got hooked on clay when she took a pottery class while enrolled in a folk high school in Sweden. She has spent time as a studio potter in Northern Idaho and in Ohio before moving to Waynesville in 1998 to open Twigs & Leaves Gallery. The gallery is still open, but Kaaren now works in her home studio in the Iron Duff community eight-and-a-half miles outside of Waynesville.

Kaaren’s work is informed by her endless fascination with nature. Much of her work incorporates natural elements including leaves from trees growing on her land. Her functional pottery includes vases of all sizes and ikebana flower-arrangers in many sizes and designs; bowls, tumblers, and mugs for the table; and serving pieces including chip and dip sets. Her garden art includes wall art, birdbaths, and garden sculptures inspired by rocks.

Visitors can find a complete working studio for clay in a separate building next to Kaaren’s home, as well as a small showroom of completed works and garden art on display in her garden and on her decks. The property consists of 2 acres of flowerbeds and gardens, and the changing seasons bring vastly different views and outdoor experiences. The work available at the studio varies according to Kaaren’s current interests and inspiration.
