At High Meadows Pottery, Dottie Baker’s 50 years’ worth of experience teaching and making pottery are on full display. What sets her apart is not only her abilities at the wheel and with glazes, but the decades of study and teaching experience that she brings to each visitor and each pot. Dottie’s studio is just a short drive from West Jefferson and within a shorter drive of some of Ashe County’s most astounding vistas. Not just a studio, High Meadows Pottery features three wheels for teaching to support a focal point of Dottie’s career. Her work is influenced by medieval Japanese and English pottery forms and is distinct for its glazes.
High Meadows Pottery has been in business for more than a decade. Visitors will see production in all stages. Pottery is on display and available for purchase or order. Dottie makes all her own glazes, so her work is distinctive and unique in color. Classes are offered as private lessons or for groups of up to three people. At High Meadows Pottery, visitors can experience the intellectual and the muddy sides of pottery at the same time.
