Foundation Woodworks
Add to Trip

Foundation Woodworks is located in Asheville’s historic River Arts District. It sits in the heart of the area known as Foundation where visitors will find some of the most concentrated areas of graffiti in Asheville, as well as excellent drinking and dining options. Passing through the doors of Foundation Woodworks into the hum of machinery and the fragrant aroma of wood is a distinct experience amidst the harsher metal exteriors of the former industrial area.

Foundation Woodworks is a collective of artists sharing studio space, equipment, and a passion for creativity. Foundation’s artists work in studios and on rented workbenches, sharing a large machine room equipped with a full range of top-of-the-line woodworking equipment. The full workshop area is home to a dozen professional woodworkers. Glass partitions allow visitors to see the woodworking take place in real time.

Visitors to Foundation Woodworks can also browse the gallery, which features works from over 50 local and regional artists and woodworkers. Work on display and for sale includes furniture, sculpture, jewelry, wood turnings, kitchen items, wall art, and more. Foundation Woodworks also features an impressive, on-site slab inventory sourced from local area trees.
