Folkmoot USA is historically known as an international dance festival. For nearly four decades The North Carolina International Folk Festival has entertained folk dance groups and musicians from around the world in Haywood County, NC. Over 200 dance troupes from over 100 countries have performed throughout the mountains of Western North Carolina.

In 2022, Folkmoot USA made the move to shift the focus of the organization from solely a festival to an inclusive, diverse, community-based arts-centric environment in Haywood County. Housed in the historic Hazelwood School, Folkmoot is now home to multiple community groups and the Folkmoot Life Long Learning series.

Visitors to Folkmoot USA can see the studio and gallery spaces of artists that rent space in former classrooms. Current artists and organizations housed in the building include The WNC Quilt Trail Project, Viking Stained Glass, fiber artist Nora Bierce, mixed media artist Ken Czarnomski,  Kayla Nielsen of Gratitude Pottery, oil painter Richard Baker, oil painter Patricia Sweet, mixed media artist Clay Sayre, and mixed media artist Marga Fripp. These artists are available by appointment. Folkmoot’s Friendship Center also includes Axis Yoga, Equilibre Massage & movement, and Stone Cottage Music which holds music lessons in the Queen auditorium. Folkmoot also hosts monthly concerts and events in the event throughout the year.
