Folkmoot USA is historically known as an international dance festival. For nearly four decades The North Carolina International Folk Festival has entertained folk dance groups and musicians from around the world in Haywood County, NC. Over 200 dance troupes from over 100 countries have performed throughout the mountains of Western North Carolina.
In 2022, Folkmoot USA made the move to shift the focus of the organization from solely a festival to an inclusive, diverse, community-based arts-centric environment in Haywood County. Housed in the historic Hazelwood School, Folkmoot is now home to multiple community groups and the Folkmoot Life Long Learning series.
Visitors to Folkmoot USA can see the studio and gallery spaces of artists that rent space in former classrooms. Current artists and organizations housed in the building include The WNC Quilt Trail Project, Viking Stained Glass, fiber artist Lynorra Bierce, mixed media painter Holly Smith, weaver and dyer Kathy DeOrnellas, and Wendy Kay Jewelers. These artists are available by appointment. Starting in 2023, Folkmoot USA will also offer workshops in weaving, stained glass, basketry, and pottery.
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 10 am-12 pm
