Doug Bowman was raised on a farm in the North Carolina foothills, and spent much of his time working at his grandfather’s fishing pond. Even at an early age, his connection to nature inspired him to create wildlife art. Doug spent a career in photography and graphic design.
In his mid 40s he traveled with his wife to the quaint little town of Chimney Rock. He was in love, soon purchasing a house and building a shop in hopes of one day selling his work there. Doug Bowman Galleries opened in 2014 and sits in the heart of Chimney Rock.
Doug’s work went from photography to wood-carved wildlife and custom furniture. When he thought about making lamps, he was unable to find one to fit him. So, he started making his own, and today, the copper shades on his lamps are his trademark. He hand-fashions the bases in red oak harvested from his own farm. He then uses a plasma cutter to freehand designs onto 12-gauge copper sheets.
The Doug Bowman Galleries showroom offers Doug’s lamps as well as castings of his carved sculptures. Also for sale are paintings framed in-house. All custom furniture is created with rough-cut lumber of the customer’s choice. Visitors will find two floors with original handmade craft to browse and enjoy.
