double island studio

“Double Island Studio is a place to learn, create, and connect with other like-minded individuals.”

Double Island Studio, located in Green Mountain, NC, is Liz Zlot Summerfield’s happy place. She not only has a place to mold clay into her own creations, but also shares skills with others to inspire them to embrace their creativity.

Liz’s family also plays a part in the studio. Her husband, Scott (glassmaker), and daughter, Roby (printmaker). Each wanted studio spaces where they could teach. They combined their passion for handcrafts with their desire to teach. While Liz is the primary studio artist and owner, her family also helps lead classes and use the space.

Workshops are capped at 10 participants. This keeps the experience more personal, as Liz and her family can offer more hands-on lessons with some individual instruction and guidance.

In addition to the teaching studio, the property also has 2 studios for artists-in-residence, a covered picnic area, and the Casita. The latter is a tiny home that instructors, students, and visitors can rent.

Double Island Studio is located:

  • 15 minutes from Penland School of Craft
  • 15 minutes from Burnsville
  • 50 minutes from Asheville

Workshops offered May to September. Registration required.

Hours: By appointment only.
