The pubic is invited to a preview open house at the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources Western Regional Archives (WRA) on Saturday August 4, between 1 and 5 p.m. The WRA, located on the 3rd floor of the Department’s Western Office at 176 Riceville Road, in Asheville, will officially open to researchers on Monday, August 13.
Administered by the State Archives of North Carolina, the WRA collects, preserves, and makes publically accessible archival materials reflecting the culture and history of Western North Carolina.
Several significant private collections have been moved from the State Archives in Raleigh to form the core archival collection in Asheville, among them the Black Mountain College Papers and private collections related to the college; the Blue Ridge Parkway Photograph Collection, and the Appalachian National Park Association Papers. The WRA will focus its collecting efforts on organizational records, private collections, and photographic collections.
