Symphony by the Lake at Chetola Resort

July 21, 2023

Symphony by the Lake returns to Chetola Resort for a centerpiece event of the summer on Friday, July 21. This year’s Symphony by the Lake is expected to be another sold-out event so folks will want to get their tickets soon. At the current rate of sale, tickets will be sold out by July 4th!

The much-loved Symphony of the Mountains, directed by Conductor Cornelia Laemmli Orth, resumes the role of featured guest for the 2023 event. Symphony of the Mountains consists of professional musicians that call a great many places home, including the Tri-Cities, TN/VA; Knoxville, TN; Asheville, NC; Winston Salem, NC; and beyond. For this year’s theme “From the Alps to the Appalachians,” Symphony of the Mountains will take attendees on a musical trip, with some selections about Switzerland and others that celebrate the music of the Appalachian Mountains. The theme is also represented in the musicians themselves. Cornelia began her studies and a prolific musical career in Switzerland before making her mark here in her adopted country. Additionally, the second half of the Symphony performance will feature the Swiss-born, North Carolina-based Kruger Brothers alongside the orchestra.

“Being exposed to a wide variety of musical influences from an early age, the Kruger Brothers’ style reflects a rich palette of musical colors,” Cornelia says. “Teaming up together guarantees a fun, interesting, and inspiring cross-over concert!”

The event also presents an opening performance from Appalachian-raised singer and songwriter Beth Snapp this year.  Snapp’s EP “Don’t Apologize” gained a top 10 spot on the Folk Alliance Chart, and she is currently working on a new full-length project. Her performance begins at 5:30pm. The Symphony of the Mountains performance begins at 7:30 pm. As always, the Symphony will perform their last musical selection with a thrilling fireworks finale!

“We are so excited to send the audience on this journey from the Alps to the Appalachians, guided by an incredibly talented line up of musicians,” says John Goheen, event coordinator. “Tickets are going fast and it will be a full show this year. We can’t wait to see everyone!”

Avid music enthusiasts will want to consider the special Audiophile Section. Located directly in front of the Symphony tent, this special area encourages quiet enjoyment of the event. Reserved seats and side tables are provided along with a charcuterie box, two beverage tickets and water. General admission seating is on the lawn and around the lake, and attendees must bring their own chairs and/or blankets. Over 40 private patron tents will line the lake as well, and many will be decorating their tents to compete for best interpretation of the night’s theme!

All attendees are invited to simplify their preparations by pre-ordering a box picnic or charcuterie box to enjoy at the event. These meals may be ordered on the Symphony website or by calling the Chamber of Commerce. If a dining experience at Timberlake’s is preferred, reservations must be made in advance with the restaurant. On-site sales of boxed food items will be available but very limited! A cash bar and drink sale area will be open during the event. As always, attendees are also welcome to bring in their own food, drinks, and adult beverages.

Gates will open at 5:30 pm. Parking at Chetola Resort is available with parking passes, which may be obtained in advance from the Chamber. Limited free parking is available first come, first served at Shoppes on the Parkway, where attendees can walk directly into the back entrance of Chetola. Attendees with mobility issues are invited to park at the Food Lion shopping center, where a complimentary shuttle van will take them directly to the lawn for seating. Individual drop-off is accommodated for guests in wheelchairs. Guests that prefer to walk in can park downtown at one of the parking decks in Blowing Rock (at the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum or the American Legion); sidewalk connection and crossing guard assistance at Chetola’s main gate make the walk safe and enjoyable.

Tickets are on sale now, available online and at the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce at 132 Park Avenue. All tickets are will-call only. Once purchased, tickets may be picked up from the Chamber of Commerce during business hours, anytime ahead of the Symphony event. General admission tickets are $65 each and Audiophile tickets are $125 each. Parking passes are $10 per vehicle. Symphony by the Lake is a rain or shine event!

The Symphony by the Lake at Chetola Resort is produced by the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce and presented by The Kennedy-Herterich Foundation and Hendrick Luxury Group.
