Metzger’s Burl Wood Gallery
Add to Trip

Metzger’s Burl Wood Gallery in downtown Waynesville specializes in creating one-of-a-kind works from burl wood. Burl wood occurs when the grain of a tree becomes deformed. Burls are usually highly textured and exceptionally beautiful. Steve Metzger has been working with burls since 1972, and he’s developed an ability to “read” a tree to know what to expect from any particular burl. Metzger’s Burl Wood Gallery showcases the works that Steve and his son, Daniel, create from ethically harvested burls, salvaged exclusively from the United States.

Visitors to Metzger’s Burl Wood Gallery can view finished works and dried burl wood waiting for the right project to come along. The 8,000 square foot gallery is packed with beautifully fashioned and creatively designed pieces of furniture and art. Burl wood creations on display include desks, headboards, footboards, bars, tables, lamps, wall hangings, and more.

The gallery also stocks a wide range of home décor to complement their burl wood products. Stephen and Daniel enjoy producing custom work. They have a deep knowledge and understanding of woods and vast experience at crafting a beautiful piece to fit any situation.
