Buzz Coren’s began woodworking as a hobby while living in Tampa, FL, during the 80s. In time, creating wooden jewelry, bowls, and vessels became part of his career. Coren discovered the South Toe River area, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the artistic community that sprang from the beautiful nature. He married Debbie Littledeer, a serigraphy artist, and the two set up their studios on their property near Burnsville.
Featherwood, Coren’s wooden jewelry line, is his main artwork. Pieces are created by layering and pressing together custom-dyed tulip poplar. He then cuts the layered wood into the shapes he uses for earrings and pendants. The process takes 50 steps, and each piece features over 1,000 color facets per inch.
Today, over 100 shops carry Coren’t jewelry, including some around Western North Carolina.
