Art on Main

Art on Main celebrates fine art and fine craft on the last weekend of September each year in historic downtown Hendersonville.

This early autumn festival gathers approximately 100 distinctive local artists and highly qualified artists from the southeast region of the United States. Look for works in clay, metal, wood, fiber, jewelry, paintings and more.

Celebrating its 60th year in 2019, Art on Main began in 1959 when the Art League of Henderson County created a Sidewalk Art Show to provide local artists the opportunity to show their work in a relaxed atmosphere while meeting the public. Originally, only two-dimensional work was shown but as the Arts Council of Henderson County took ownership in 2003 additional artists working in various media and from outside of the area were invited to participate. The show still enjoys the involvement of several artists who have been participating for many years.

Live art demonstrations are interspersed throughout the show and may include blacksmithing, basket making, stone cutting lapidary, copper and brass art, wire wrapping, raku pottery firing, painting, weaving, and fiber arts.
