Quilts: The Stories They Tell

March 14 - August 26

Twenty-Five quilts from the MHC's extensive collection featuring Album, Crazy, and Patchwork quilt styles. Stories of makers, families, and community members as well as local and national patterns, techniques and materials, and the perceptions of quilts will be showcased. View old favorites as well as new acquisitions and quilts that have never been on exhibit in a MHC exhibit.    

Seasonal Paint and Sip Series at Chimney Rock State Park

The next installment of our Seasonal Paint and Sip class at the Old Rock Cafe is coming up quickly on June 2nd. Local artist Tiffany Fry will be back to help attendees create their very own painting of a summer tree and the Old Rock crew will be serving local beer, wine, and appetizers. Pop-up Mini Fair at the Folk Art Center

In the lower level parking lot of the Folk Art Center, Guild members will have an opportunity to share their creative efforts with the public in an outdoor carefully-spaced layout. Visitors can shop for a variety of fine craft of different disciplines: bladesmithing, glassblowing, wheel-thrown and hand-built ceramics, woodturning, metalsmithing, leatherwork, and furniture making. The public will get to see beautiful craftwork in a fun, casual setting while Guild members have an opportunity to find new homes for their pieces. 

Clay Day

Join us for a celebration of one of the oldest craft mediums and the makers of clay. Clay Day features craft demonstrations and hands-on activities by members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild and invited guests. An Appalachian Summer Festival: Summer Exhibition Celebration

An Appalachian Summer Festival: 36th Annual Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Walk

To celebrate the 36th anniversary of this annual national juried competition, join competition juror Elizabeth Brim for an educational outdoor tour of the 10 sculptures from this year’s competition. 75th Annual Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands: Summer Edition

July 21 - July 24

In its 75th year, the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands returns to downtown Asheville’s Harrah’s Cherokee Center. Filling both the concourse and arena levels of the venue, makers exhibit a variety of craft ranging from contemporary to traditional in works of clay, wood, metal, glass, fiber, natural materials, paper, leather, mixed media, and jewelry. Admission $10, Children under 12 free. Thursday-Saturday 10:00 am-6:00 pm Sunday 10:00 am-5:00 pm

Wood Day

August 13 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Join us for a celebration of wooden crafts – one of the first mediums of handicraft. From branches, trunks, roots, and bark, watch as they’re used in both functional and decorative pieces. During Wood Day, Members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild will showcase this evolution of skills and mastery of crafted wood by demonstrating and sharing their working processes with visitors at the Folk Art Center. Heritage Day

Join us from 10 am-4 pm for a celebration of Southern Appalachian culture on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This festival has old-time music and demonstrations of the crafts of yesteryear.
