Haywood County is home-base for team clogging, and among the teams representing the tradition locally today, the J. Creek Cloggers are among the best known and most active. Founder Kim Campbell Ross grew up in the small Scott County community of Snowflake, in the mountains of far Southwestern Virginia. She learned flatfoot dancing early, both from her dancing family, and at community venues like the Carter Fold in nearby Hiltons, VA.

Kim became a resident of Western North Carolina in the early 1990s, settling in Haywood County. The J. Creek Cloggers formed in 2009 and went viral in March 2022, leading to Kim’s son, Zeb Ross, performing for the Country Music Award hosting Peyton Manning, and Luke Bryant, as well as the team being in several music videos. The J. Creek Cloggers are now performing across the United States, preserving freestyle dance and also educating their audiences on the history behind the dance.

The J. Creek Cloggers include, among their specialties, audience-participation broom dances and square dances, clogging, as well as line dancing.

Availability:

The J. Creek Cloggers are available for workshops, dance performances, weddings, private events, demonstrations, etc. Kim Campbell Ross, Zeb Ross, and other individual members of the J. Creek Cloggers offer instruction in flatfooting, buck dancing, clogging, and line dancing.
