Flattoad Farm is the result of a lifelong passion for nature. I have been a gardener and land steward for many years, and my studio space is as much outdoors as it is in. Perched on a protected ridge, my small studio looks out across my flower and dye gardens with a mountain backdrop.
Ecoprinting on fiber is my attempt to capture the wildness around me, and I use the leaves, flowers, and botanicals I grow myself or wild forage from the land. When I am working on a new piece, I often move between my indoor studio–where I lay out botanicals and prepare fabric for printing–and my outdoor studio–where I set up large pots to steam the fiber, hang it to dry, and collect plant materials.
In addition to the studio and gardens, Flattoad Farm houses my gallery where much of my work is on display and available to purchase. This includes functional items like table runners, pillows, and clothing and art pieces such as wall hangings, paper prints, and framed pieces. I also offer printed fabric yardage.
I invite those who love nature and are curious about ecoprinting to visit my space and learn more about my process. Occasionally, when I have the heat press set up, I give short demos. Visitors will see a diverse range of ecoprinted textiles, paper prints, stitched and printed upcycled clothing, and more. I sew many of my printed fabrics into functional pieces such as pillows, clothing, and table runners. I also have been experimenting with ecoprinting on pottery in collaboration with a potter friend.
