Danielle Bishop

Bluegrass fiddler Buncombe County, NC

By the age of thirteen, Danielle Bishop had a list of fiddle contest titles that one might expect from a master fiddler who had been playing for several decades. She has won overall and age-division awards at Fiddlers Grove, the Galax Old Fiddlers Convention, the Georgia Mountain State Fair, and many other prestigious music events. In 2006 she was the youngest fiddler to win Fiddler of the Festival at Fiddlers Grove, and in 2007 she was named First Runner-Up for Fiddler of the Festival.

Danielle Bishop has grown up surrounded with excellent musical influences. Her father, Danny Bishop, is an accomplished bluegrass musician and the proprietor of Bishop’s Violins in Fairview. She has taken music lessons from Arvil Freeman, the great Buncombe County fiddler and a traditional music mentor to many. She has also appeared on stage at MerleFest with theKrüger Brothers and Chris Thile. At the heart of Danielle’s career as a bluegrass musician is her love of the fiddle. “I really do love playing the fiddle,” she said in an interview with the Asheville Citizen-Times. “I think it just sounds the best of all the stringed instruments.”

Danielle plays regularly with the Cane Creek Band, with fellow up-and-comer Seth Taylor, a young multi-instrumentalist, as well as her father Danny on mandolin, Ralph Toomey on bass, and Kevin Tuck on banjo and guitar. Danielle has taken her place as one of the favorite bluegrass musicians in the Asheville area.
