Charlie Shuler
Charlie Shuler
Charlie Shuler grew up in the same spot where he lives today, in the Caney Fork section of Cullowhee. He took up the guitar at the age of twelve, learning by ear. In the coming years he would also learn the mandolin and banjo. Today he plays bluegrass, oldtime, and gospel music throughout the region.
As part of the Cullowhee Valley boys, with other bands, and as a solo musician, Shuler has appeared at Mountain Heritage Day, the Fletcher Fair, the Georgia Mountain Fair, and other events in western North Carolina, north Georgia, and east Tennessee. He particularly enjoys playing music at schools and educating schoolchildren about the musical traditions of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
