An Evening of Cherokee History

Please join us at The Beal Center in Hayesville, NC on April 4, 2025 at 7:00 PM with four phenomenal speakers.
Dr. David Moore~ has studied Western NC archeology since 1978, with 24 years as a Professor of Archeology at Warren Wilson College (retired), 25 years studying The Cherokee and Southern Appalachian archeology and 25 years studying ancestral archeology of Catawba and the 16th century Spanish invasion of Hernando DeSoto & Juan Pardo, and was the originator of our Cherokee Room of exhibits in our Old Jail Museum in the early 1980s.
Rob Tiger~ is a fourth-generation local business owner, talented musician, and singer/songwriter with a background in Archaeology. Rob was involved with Western Carolina University in the excavations of Spikebuck Mound in Hayesville, NC, in 1973 & 1975. He also received Western Carolina University’s Mountain Heritage Award in 2012 for his “outstanding contributions to the preservation or interpretation of the history and culture of Southern Appalachia.”
Darry Wood~ is an artist & student of Southeastern Native traditions, devoting his work to presenting the historic material culture of the Cherokee in public spaces. He is the creator of our life-sized figure of Lura, a Cherokee woman basket weaver that sits prominently in a corner of our Cherokee Room at The Old Jail Museum, and his latest creation of a Cherokee Hunter will be on display at this event.
Davy Arch~ is a talented storyteller, lecturer, and traditional Cherokee artist. A multi-talented master artisan in the creation of Cherokee Clan Masks, pottery, and basket weaving. He has a wealth of knowledge of Cherokee History that he will share with us.
