Foundation Studios in the River Arts District of Asheville fills a building that was once the largest tannery in the southeastern United States. The red oak used liberally in the building’s construction is still visible in the rafters throughout. Today, the creative legacy continues as Foundation Studios utilizes art to build community.

Foundation Studios features around 15 working studios as well as displays showcasing the work of more than 80 artisans, largely from the Asheville area. A unique offering that Foundation Studios provides artists is the ability to rent large and small spaces.

Visitors to Foundation Studios can browse a massive selection of diverse art and craft. A “Featured Artist” display showcases a new artist periodically. The flex space allows for themes art shows, classes, workshops, and event rentals. Foundation Studios features a modern take on art. Work on display changes but can include pottery, sculpture, woodwork, stained glass, carving, painting, photography, and much more. For those looking to build skills across several media, Foundation Studios offers classes for children and adults.
