Elkin showcases craft in a lovingly restored Victorian home
The Foothills Arts Council is located in a beautiful historic home in the heart of Elkin. The 3,000-square-foot building is a lovingly restored turn-of-the-century Victorian home. sit on the shaded wrap-around porch, walk through the Arts Council’s gardens, view the exhibition, and take home a sampling of the best the Foothills has to offer.
The first floor features dual craft and exhibit galleries flanking a wide central foyer gallery. The 200 square foot craft gallery is filled with works by local and regional artisans offering a wide selection of pottery, textiles, jewelry and more. An 800 square foot changing exhibits gallery hosts solo and group exhibitions by local and regional artists throughout the year. The annual Foothills Holiday Craft Market is held each December and features 30+ craft vendors. During the summer months, you might catch local musicians picking on the front porch. The second-floor houses the Yadkin Valley Fiber Center, youth art programs, and adult and youth music lessons.
The Yadkin Valley Fiber Center is a place to learn more about fiber arts. The center is stocked with looms and there is also a small area with yarns and equipment for sale. The Center offers classes and workshops in traditional and contemporary fiber arts and hosts a monthly “Sit & Sew” along with members of Foothills Quilters.
