SUMMARY:Heritage Weekend at the Folk Art Center
DESCRIPTION:This free celebration of mountain heritage features traditional crafts accompanied by music and dancing. On-going demonstrations will include traditional woodworking with traditional tools\, weaving\, spinning\, dyeing\, broom making\, stone carving\, and printmaking. Visitors will have the opportunity to try their hand at some of the crafts and an activity table will encourage young people to create. A music stage will provide further entertainment with bluegrass and gospel music. There is free parking and a grassy area for picnics and relaxation. Spend an early autumn day in WNC honoring and learning about the crafts of yesteryear. \nHours: Saturday\, September 21\, 10 am-4 pm & Sunday\, September 22\, 12 pm-4 pm

SUMMARY:The Ani and Wanei Culture Fest
DESCRIPTION:A cultural extravaganza mingling Cherokee and Appalachian artisans\, performers\, and foods! This is a free event for cultural celebration and a new trail kiosk dedication. It is located at Hickory Nut Gap Farm.  \nThe festival will include: \n\nLive entertainment including: An indigenous flute performance and storytelling by Jarrett Wildcat\, the Igali Puppet Performers sharing Cherokee language\, dance performances with the Warriors of Anikituhwa\, bluegrass music by Andrew Wakefield\, and the Aniyvwiyahi Analsgisgi dancers. \nLive speakers including Cherokee Miss Royalties speaking on their platforms. They will also be assisting in the ribbon cutting and available for meet & greets. \nKiosk dedication ceremony.\nFood will be available through the Native Nummies Food Truck serving frybread tacos and the Hickory Nut Gap Farm Grill.\nBeverages will be vended by MerTail Mocktails (NA) Their elixirs are organic and wildcrafted\, featuring bioregional diversity throughout the Americas and Appalachian folk medicine formulated into beverage concentrates that are colorful\, flavorful and steeped in energetics and herbs.\nNative and non-native craft vendors ranging from paintings\, pottery\, basketry\, beading\, painting\, fiber\, cornhusk dolls\, jewelry\, and copperwork!\nCome out and celebrate culture with us! Dance with the Warriors\, enjoy Forest Bathing\, Face Painting\, Cherokee Flute\, Bluegrass foot tapping music and much more!
