As the first town Appalachian Trail hikers reach on their journey\, we love nothing more than celebrating those adventurers with music\, delicious food\, and fun & games. But this year\, the celebration goes beyond the trail—it’s about community\, resilience\, and the spirit of rebuilding together. DESCRIPTION:The Cherokee County Historical Museum has officially expanded and fully restored its home inside the historic Carnegie Library building in downtown Murphy. It is something you do not want to miss. \nThis newly completed expansion brings the entire building back together\, creating a unified space dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of Cherokee County. From Native American heritage and Trail of Tears interpretation to Appalachian artifacts and early settler life\, the museum continues to serve as a meaningful connection to our region’s past. \nJoin us as we celebrate this exciting milestone. We will be hosting a ribbon cutting at 2:00 PM during the Open House on Friday\, May 1st from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

DESCRIPTION:Let your creativity flow during Downtown Boone Art Crawls! \nIn addition to Fridays and Saturdays throughout the semester\, the Turchin Center offers additional hours during Art Crawl evenings in Spring 2026. \nWorkshops are led by Appalachian State University student instructor Zoe Efthymiou. Drop-in Artmaking will be a time to create and play with art making materials in the Moskowitz Gallery on Fridays and 3002 on Saturdays\, casual and welcoming settings. Open to all skill levels. \nAll workshops are FREE and open to Appalachian State University students\, staff and faculty members and community members. \nEducational programming is brought to you in part by the generous support of the Tina Silverstein Opportunity Fund.
