Storytelling will end around dusk with a tale as chill as the mountain air.  Hot dogs\, hot chocolate and drinks will be for sale. \nSATURDAY: 10am – 5pm\, $5 admission\, free parking \n\n\n\n\nA day full of family fun including music\, dancing\, food\, heritage demonstrations\, arts and craft vendors\, a quilt show\, pie contest\, live animals and more! Kids activities include face painting\, pumpkin bowling\, and a scavenger hunt.

SUMMARY:Woolly Worm Festival
DESCRIPTION:This year’s event – the 49th annual – takes place Oct. 17-18 on the field of the Historic Banner Elk Elementary School. The Woolly Worm Festival is co-hosted by the Avery County Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Organization of Banner Elk. \nThe Woolly Worm races begin around 10:00 a.m. Each heat consists of 25 worms\, and races continue all day until the grand final around 4 p.m. The winning worm on Saturday is declared the official winter forecasting agent. The Sunday worm races are for prestige\, fun\, and small prizes. Worm Races are limited so please arrive early to the festival and register your worms. \nIn addition to the Woolly Worm Races\, the festival features crafts\, food vendors\, live entertainment\, and much more. Join us for a century-long annual gathering tradition cultivating fellowship through gospel music in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. \nJoseph Hartley began Singing on the Mountain in 1924 as a church picnic\, and for nearly a century\, the all-day\, free festival of gospel singing and fellowship was held on the fourth Sunday of June on Grandfather Mountain. In the spirit of faith and community\, all have been welcomed to enjoy picnics and gospel music performances highlighted with a message of love and hope. DESCRIPTION:The Greening Up the Mountains Festival is a heritage arts festival that celebrates the arrival of Spring through both traditional and contemporary forms of Appalachian art\, music\, food\, and beverage which honor our community and local artisans. The festival is sponsored by both the Town of Sylva and the Main Street Sylva Association and will be held in Historic Downtown Sylva\, North Carolina. The Greening Up The Mountains Festival enjoys crowds of upwards of 12\,000 attendees and has 150 vendor booth spaces. In addition to a variety of arts\, crafts\, and food vendors\, attendees can enjoy a 5k run\, beverage arts featuring local craft breweries\, and live music throughout the day. \n​Be sure to visit both Main Street and Bridge Park to enjoy all the festival has to offer. DESCRIPTION:Pisgah Project Day (PPD) is Pisgah’s largest volunteer day. Each spring\, hundreds of community volunteers join forces with The Pisgah Conservancy\, our event sponsors and partners\, and the Forest Service to complete dozens of improvement projects throughout the Pisgah Ranger District. \nDuring PPD 2025\, 500 volunteers joined forces with us to complete 25 projects in a single day during our biggest PPD event to date. \nPPD 2026 will be held on Saturday\, April 25th\, and the event will take place on the last Saturday in April going forward. \nVisit site for more details and to register.
