SUMMARY:Doggett Gap Tiny Music & Heritage Festival
DESCRIPTION:Rare Bird Cultural Arts is thrilled to announce the Doggett Gap Tiny Music & Heritage Festival\, a celebration of roots music\, craft\, and community at Rare Bird Farm in rural Spring Creek\, NC\, on Friday\, May 2\, and Saturday\, May 3\, 2025. This intimate\, family-friendly gathering showcases a diverse lineup of artists spanning Americana\, country\, folk\, and Appalachian traditions\, blending the old with the new in a setting designed to foster connection and creativity. \nFriday\, May 2 @ 6:00 PM through Saturday May 3rd @ 9:00 PM – Doggett Gap Tiny Music & Heritage Festival  \nThe 2025 festival lineup features an incredible mix of emerging and established artists\, including: \n\nKassi Valazza\nChris Acker\nMike Gangloff & Kaily Schenker\nWeirs\nThe Wilder Flower\nNicholas Edward Williams\nTyler Dodson\nShelton Powe\n\nAttendees can also enjoy immersive folklife and craft experiences\, with featured artists-at-large leading interactive sessions: \n\nShaped-Note Singing Workshop with Laura Boosinger\nBe Art Experiential Art with Jane Sleeper\nAppalachian Dance Lessons with Linda Block\n\nBuilding on the success of last year’s Fine Tuned Sessions\, which was created in collaboration with Blue Ridge National Heritage Area (BRNHA)\, Rare Bird Cultural Arts sought to establish this as its signature spring festival. “We wanted to honor both our location and the musical roots of the region by renaming the festival after Doggett Gap\, the mountain under which Rare Bird Farm sits\, as well as the title of a Bascom Lamar Lunsford song\,” said Farrah Hoffmire\, Executive Director of Rare Bird Cultural Arts. \nRare Bird’s “tiny festival” model ensures an intimate and low-impact experience\, keeping both the land and the community at the heart of the event. “We call them tiny festivals because we want to keep our impact low at Rare Bird Farm and have a max capacity of 200 people. This keeps our connection to the land front and center and allows for an intimate experience for all involved\,” said Mitchell Davis\, co-owner of Rare Bird Farm. \nSupporting the Community and Regional Recovery\nThis year’s festival is especially important to Rare Bird Cultural Arts and the surrounding community in the wake of Hurricane Helene\, which caused significant flooding damage to neighboring towns\, including Hot Springs\, NC. “In addition to celebrating local music and culture\, we’re hoping to encourage visitors to come early for the festival\, stay longer in our vacation rentals\, and shop locally to help boost the regional economy as our neighbors rebuild\,” said Farrah Hoffmire. \nVisitors are also invited to participate in Town and Trail Fest on Friday\, May 2\, where volunteers will work together to clean\, restore\, and beautify downtown Hot Springs\, which was devastated by flood damage. “It’s a great opportunity to help out in the community while enjoying the beautiful landscapes that make this region so special\,” Hoffmire added. The volunteer event will take place from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in downtown Hot Springs. \n50% of net proceeds from the Doggett Gap festival will be donated to the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area\, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving\, interpreting\, and promoting the heritage of the Blue Ridge Mountains through music\, craft\, and storytelling initiatives. \nWith its intimate setting\, world-class music\, and hands-on folklife experiences\, Doggett Gap Tiny Music & Heritage Festival promises a weekend of deep connection\, creative exploration\, and community celebration. \nTickets and more information: Doggett Gap Tiny Music & Heritage Festival \nhttps://rarebirdfarm.org/performingarts/2025/5/2/doggett-gap-tiny-music-amp-heritage-festival \n2025 Artists:  \nKassi Valazza is a singer-songwriter hailing from Arizona. SUMMARY:Blue Ridge Roots Revival Series: Clarke Williams & Travis Stuart
DESCRIPTION:The Blue Ridge Roots Revival Series was born out of a need to create opportunities for musicians and music venues. Since Hurricane Helene’s destruction in September 2024\, many communities are still working to rebuild physically\, economically\, and emotionally. The region is widely known for its tourism economy\, and visitation is still down. \nThe Blue Ridge National Heritage Area (BRNHA) is partnering with the Jazz Foundation of America to present this summer and fall concert series. The Blue Ridge Roots Revival series will feature 10 performances throughout Western North Carolina (WNC)\, bringing local and nationally acclaimed artists to local venues. \nSaturday\, June 28: Clarke Williams & Travis Stuart\, 2:00 PM \nThis FREE Blue Ridge Roots Revival Series concert is at the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center – Milepost 384. \nClarke Williams: \nClarke Williams is a multi-instrumentalist based in Asheville\, NC. While comfortable in a variety of styles\, he has a strong focus on the musical traditions of Western NC. He has won awards and recognition for his fiddle\, banjo\, and guitar playing at festivals and fiddlers’ conventions across the Southeast. Clarke has performed nationally and internationally\, in bands such as Jenny and the Hog Drovers (with Phil Jamison)\, the Georgia Horseshoes\, and the French Broadcasters. Clarke graduated from Warren Wilson College\, where he studied traditional music. \nTravis Stuart: \nA Bethel native and Haywood County resident\, Travis Stuart is a banjo player who has been performing old-time music rooted in Western North Carolina for over twenty years. The backbone of bluegrass\, old-time string band music carries a legacy that is inescapable\, and from his earliest days growing up\, Stuart was steeped in that legacy. Brought up in a rich musical community and family\, Stuart learned to play banjo from local musicians like Avery County’s Red Wilson\, recipient of a 2003 North Carolina Heritage Award. Playing his great-uncle Austin Stamley’s banjo\, Stuart has mastered a local old time style and shared it around the United States and Europe\, touring and recording alongside his twin brother\, Trevor. In 2017\, he and Trevor released The Stuart Brothers\, a generous collection of 23 tunes both traditional and original. Trevor passed away a few years ago. Clarke Williams has carefully studied Trevor’s fiddle style and will be playing with Travis to recreate the twins’ sound. \nThere are Blue Ridge Roots Revival Concerts\, with more to be announced later this summer! \n \n
