SUMMARY:The Bascom's Spring Exhibition Reception
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating: \n• Emergence: A Survey of Southeastern Studio Programs\n• Winter Resident Artist Exhibition by Casey Schachner\n• Bascom Instructor Showcase \nThe season’s first reception centers on mentorship\, material exploration\, and the many ways artists learn from one another across generations. The afternoon begins with a 2 pm artist talk by Casey Schachner\, The Bascom’s 2025–2026 Winter Resident Artist\, who will discuss the process-driven sculptural investigations that shape her residency exhibition. Following the talk\, guests are invited to join the reception\, meet participating faculty and student artists from across the Southeast\, and engage with Bascom instructors whose practices inform the foundation of our educational programs. The event cultivates an atmosphere of dialogue and shared curiosity\, offering visitors a beautiful introduction to the year’s exhibition season. \nExhibition Receptions at The Bascom \nEach season\, The Bascom welcomes the community to gather for a series of exhibition receptions that honor the range of artistic expression found in our galleries. These events highlight both contemporary practice and historical perspectives\, offering space to encounter new work alongside significant works from the past. Receptions provide a meaningful opportunity to speak with artists\, curators\, and other contributors\, gaining insight into the ideas\, histories\, and processes that shape each exhibition. Visitors may also enjoy connecting with fellow art enthusiasts in an informal\, welcoming environment. Light refreshments are served\, encouraging conversation and a shared sense of discovery across our campus.

SUMMARY:Lauren Crowe: What We Keep Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:What We Keep is an exhibition of relief prints by Lauren Crowe\, on view at the Center Gallery of the Cherokee County Arts Council in June 2026. An opening reception will take place Friday\, June 5 at 5:30 pm in the Center Gallery. \nCrowe’s work is rooted in the landscapes of western North Carolina and shaped by a slow\, hands-on printmaking process. Each piece begins with a hand-carved block and is printed in limited editions\, allowing texture\, layering\, and subtle variation to remain visible. Her prints depict familiar forms—rock\, tree\, ridge\, and ground—not as fixed scenes\, but as remembered places shaped by time\, repetition\, and attention. \nRaised in Murphy\, Crowe brings a strong local connection to this body of work. The imagery draws from the mountains and forests of Cherokee County\, reflecting both personal history and a shared sense of place. Rather than documenting the landscape directly\, her prints invite viewers to slow down and consider what endures: the marks we notice\, the memories we carry\, and the quiet relationship between people and the land they call home. \nWhat We Keep offers a reflective look at place\, process\, and belonging\, and highlights the value of making and looking slowly in a world that rarely asks us to do either.
