Ty Gilpin has been playing traditional and original music in Western North Carolina for nearly 20 years. In that time he has co-founded several bluegrass groups, including the award-winning group High Windy and Unspoken Tradition.
Ty is principally a song writer, vocalist, and mandolin player. He has also collaborated with some of the top players in the area producing the solo CD Crooked Hollows in 2012. This is an all original recording featuring Ty alongside regional and national musicians including members of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, Balsam Range, and The Honeycutters among others.
Since 2004, Ty has worked as a music promoter and marketing director for Crossroads and Mountain Home Music Company. At Crossroads, Ty works with some of the top names in bluegrass and gospel music including Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, The Grascals, The Boxcars, and others.
Ty Gilpin is available to perform with Unspoken Tradition or solo in concert, festivals, and other settings, and is an all-around resource for information about today’s traditional music in Western North Carolina.
