Gather 'Round the Blue Ridge 2014

The BRNHA Partnership invites its partners and friends to the 2014 Gather 'Round the Blue Ridge Annual Meeting on August 21, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM (Registation starts at 9:30 AM) at the Crowne Plaza Resort Expo Center in Asheville, NC.  This year's theme is:

Honoring Our Heritage Treasures

We have a great program lined up for this year! In addition to the music, food, information-sharing, networking and camaradarie that are always part of this annual gathering, we are very excited to announce that our keynote speaker is Dayton Duncan, writer and co-producer with Ken Burns of the documentary The National Parks: America's Best Idea

With our wealth of national and state parks, forests and other public lands, the people of the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area have amazing opportunities to attract visitors for outdoor recreation. We have some of the best whitewater in the southeast, hiking and biking trails, rock climbing, swimming, fishing, camping, and much more--including the two most visited national parks in the country. These resources already lend major support to our economy, and with good stewardship, they offer the opportunity for even greater benefit to our region and to those who come here to enjoy the natural scenic beauty and outdoor activities that abound in our back yard. Come and hear what Dayton has to say about the value of our natural heritage treasures.

Because of the popularity of our speaker, we expect this event to fill up quickly, so we urge you to buy your tickets early.  Tickets are $50, and to encourage you to purchase them online, we're including the cost of online processing in the ticket price.

More About Dayton Duncan

Dayton Duncan has been involved for many years with other series directed by Burns including The Civil War, Horatio's Drive, Baseball and Jazz. He was the co-writer and consulting producer of  the 12-hour series The West, about the history of the American West, and writer and producer of the four-hour documentary, Lewis & Clark: The Journey of the Corps of Discovery.

“We are thrilled to have such a distinguished guest as our speaker this year,” said Cathy Robbins, chair of the BRNHA Partnership board of directors.  “Dayton Duncan and his work embody so much of what the Heritage Area is all about—protecting our natural scenic beauty and engaging the people who live and visit here in preserving it for future generations.
