Amount Awarded: $18,000
Award Date: June, 2013

A $18,000 grant from the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area Partnership helped support the creation of a new Climate Change exhibit at the Cradle of Forestry historic site in Brevard, North Carolina. Housed in the site’s Discovery Center, the interactive exhibit explores the how changes in climate will affect forest ecosystems and what foresters and visitors can do to lessen some of the impacts.

The exhibit opened in April, 2014 and helped the Cradle of Forestry increase its visitation by 10,000 during the 2014 season.

The Cradle of Forestry in America Interpretive Association led the project in collaboration with the US Forest Service Southern Research Station and the Cradle of Forestry.

Other exhibit sponsors included the Tennessee Valley Authority Ag & Forestry Fund, The Glass Foundation, Duke Energy Foundation, Altamont Environmental, James & James Environmental, Atlanta Botanical Garden, and the Biltmore Estate.

The project team also partnered with the National Inquirer on developing curriculum materials for middle school students for use in conjunction with the new exhibit.
