Stone Mountain State Park
Stone Mountain State Park, located off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Sparta, is named for a magnificent 600-foot granite dome estimated to be 300 million years old. Designated a National Natural Landmark in 1975, the 13,747-acre Park features cascading waterfalls, cool mountain streams, and quiet forests teeming with wildlife a perfect setting for outdoor activities of many kinds.

The Park is a trout fisher's paradise, with more than 17 miles of park streams designated as trout waters. Rock climbing is permitted in designated areas on the cliffs of Stone Mountain but is not recommended for beginners unless they are accompanied by an experienced climber. The Park offers 90 tent and RV campsites as well as backcountry camping sites along Widow's Creek.
