Brevard Music Center
Founded in 1936, the Brevard Music Center is one of the oldest and finest summer music institutions in the country. Every summer, over 400 young musicians from all over the world come to study and play side by side with professional musicians in the presentation of more than 70 public concerts, staged operas and musicals. Because there is an emphasis on performing with professional musicians in addition to instruction, the Brevard Music Center is unique in giving students the opportunity to understand the world of the professional musician. The Brevard Music Center offers instruction in chamber music, instrumental studies and composition to students age fourteen and older. The campus encompasses more than 145 buildings which are spread over 140 mountainside acres. The main concert hall, Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium, seats 1,800, with additional lawn seating available on either side of the hall. The Auditorium was recently refurbished with state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment. Next door to the Auditorium, the Café con Brio offers dinner to concert-goers on Friday and Saturday nights. Hours of Operation The concert season runs from mid-June through mid-August.
