Qualla Arts & Crafts

Credit photos to Cherokee Historical AssociationSince its founding in 1946, Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual has become one of the most successful Native American craft cooperatives in the country.  A non-profit organization, the co-op sells high quality, hand-made crafts by the more than 300 Cherokee artisans who are its members.  Visitors of the Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual can purchase baskets, pottery, woodcarving, bead work, jewelry, dolls, blowguns, and many other craft items.  High quality is ensured by a selection committee and the approval of the entire co-operative membership.

The Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual offer an exhibit room that provides information on craft traditions through displays of raw materials, photographs of the process of creation, and examples of work.  There is a large display of historical baskets, masks, pottery, finger-weaving, and woodcarving.

For more than fifty years, the Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual has helped Cherokee craft traditions survive by holding high standards for quality and by providing year-round income for Cherokee crafts people.
